Parents’ community involvement does not stop with their children’s education. This is shown by Véronique, Delphine and Stéphane, three parents very involved in the Parents’ Association (APE), who have just founded the Amediatec association (Association of child muggles dedicated to insatiable amateurs totally in love with culture ).

Their children having now left school, these three culture enthusiasts wanted to continue to commit to the development of activities around books and reading, in connection with the media library and the city’s schools. The idea was born from a simple observation: book initiatives, notably the children’s book festival, lack funding to fully develop.

Without financial aid, book projects and the authors’ festival would be more complicated to finance. We therefore decided to continue this project.”explains Véronique, one of the founding members of Amediatec. The objective of the association is twofold.

On the one hand, it is a question of supporting the cultural actions of the media library, in particular those aimed at young people. On the other hand, the association wishes to strengthen the links between the media library and schools. To do this, she works in close collaboration with teachers and librarians.

Creation of a snack kiosk

To finance its initiatives, the association found an original and friendly solution: the creation of a snack kiosk in the courtyard of the media library. Every Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Véronique, Delphine and Stéphane run the kiosk, offering sweet snacks to children who come out of school and come to play or read in the courtyard of the media library. On the menu, hot waffles, candies, sodas, hot drinks and other treats.

Children, but also their parents, appreciate this gourmet break which perfumes the atmosphere with the sweet smell of sugar. This simple activity allows us to raise funds while creating a moment of sharing and conviviality around the media library.

The profits generated by the kiosk will help finance the association’s projects, in particular the authors’ festival and reading workshops in schools. Their initiative proves that with a little will and creativity, it is possible to bring ambitious projects to life, serving young people and culture.
