A Festival, a book fair, a week to celebrate reading this is how the organizer presents the Fait Lire festival which returns to at the start of autumn 2024. 65,000 visitors went there in 2023. So this year, where does it take place, when , how much does entry cost and what activities are planned? Maine Libre takes stock of all the information you need to know before going to the event.

Where and when does the festival take place?

Make it read takes place from Monday September 30 to Sunday October 6, 2024. The highlight is planned for the weekend of October 5 and 6. The lounge will then be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Activities, meetings and book sales take place in the city center of Le Mans between Place de la République and Place des Jacobins. To connect the two places, a “Book Street” will come alive all weekend.

The city center is accessible by public transport via various bus lines and the two tram lines (République or Jacobins stops).

For those who come by car, several car parks are available including those of Quinconces/Jacobins and La République.

How much does entry cost?

Entrance to the show is free as well as access to the majority of events.

Some events with limited places require a reservation. For paid meetings (organized by Les Quinconces-L’Espal or the Pathé cinema), payment is made directly to the structure.

Who are the authors present?

Several authors were announced by the organizers this summer. Like every year, many of them will come and meet their readers in . Among them, Laurent Gounelle (“The Man Who Wanted to Be Happy”, “The Day I Learned to Live” or “An Almost Perfect World”), Annick Cojean (senior reporter at Le Monde, winner of the Albert Londres Prize, author of “We wouldn’t have gotten there if” and “A fierce freedom”), Yann Queffélec (Goncourt Prize for “Les Noces barbares”), Maud Ventura (“My Husband”), Alice Zeniter (“Hit the epic”), Kamel Daoud (“Meursault, counter-investigation”), Nadia Daam (“The Kid”), Etienne Kern (“Les Envolés”, Goncourt Prize 2022) or Yasmina Khadraauthor of around thirty novels translated into more than fifty languages.

Several other guests are worth noting, particularly on the crime scene such as the former judicial police captain and humanitarian logistician Olivier Norek or the winner of the Grand Prix for detective literature and the Elle Readers’ Prize, Caryl Ferey.

The poster for the event was designed by Catel, on the theme “Women, science and inspiration”. The designer will also be present during the event to present the comic strip that she co-wrote with Bocquet and which she devotes to Anita Conti, the first French woman oceanographer.
