Coop Breizh now has several months to try to get back on its feet, after being placed in receivership by the Brest commercial court on Tuesday afternoon. The iconic Breton company, created 65 years ago and which has 17 employees, has just lost tens of thousands of euros in recent months. Which led its managers to declare themselves in cessation of payment last Thursday.
The Finistère company distributes the works of around sixty publishing houses and a hundred Breton music labels in some 2,000 points of sale in the region, in France and internationally.
“We will have to support employees”
“This decision gives Coop Breizh some time, it’s always good news. But these are complicated times to live through and manage. We’re going to have to support the employees, reacts Jean-Marie Goater, president of AMEB, the association of publishing houses in Brittany. Many publishing houses are partners of Coop Breizh. This cessation of payment means that they have not been able to recover the proceeds of the sales of their books for several months. So we ourselves, as suppliers, are in a complicated cash flow situation to be able to honor our debts to our own suppliers: printers, authors, players in the book chain, etc.
