2024 Paralympic Games: Jonas Van De Steene wins bronze in H4 para-cycling time trial

Van de Steene, 37, completed the 28.4km course in 41:52.22 to take bronze. Dutchman Jetze Plat took the gold in 41:28.51 ahead of Austrian Thomas Fruehwirth in second in 41:31.22.

This is the eighth medal for the Belgian delegation in its Games, the fourth in para cycling on Wednesday after the silver medals of Ewoud Vromant (C2) and Maxime Hordies (H1) and the bronze of Tim Celen (T1-2).

Michèle George (grade V) in para dressage and Maxime Carabin in the 400 m in the T52 class in para athletics won the gold medal, Vromant won the silver in the 3 km pursuit in para cycling on the track (C2) and Peter Genyn won the bronze in the 200 m in the T51 class in para athletics.

Jonas Van De Steene suffers from motor failure in the abdomen and legs as a result of a thrombosis caused by a cycling accident. The Flemish rider is competing in the H4 category reserved for paraplegic cyclists with a functional trunk.

Van de Steene is competing in his third Games. He finished 10th in Rio in 2016, where he also won bronze in the mixed relay, and 9th in Tokyo in 2021 in the time trial.
