How did politicians and rights organizations react?

After Narin Güran’s lifeless body was found, AKP politicians issued condolence messages, while women’s rights organizations and opposition leaders called for stricter control mechanisms to be established to protect children.

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said, “As the Ministry, we will personally follow up on the process so that those responsible receive the harshest punishment.”

AKP Deputy Chairwoman and former Minister of Family and Social Services Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya shared the following on her social media account X: “Delicate… Oh my child… May those who killed our angel-faced daughter be damned!”

AKP Deputy Chairman and spokesperson Ömer Çelik said, “We are very saddened by the sad news of our daughter Narin who went missing in the Tavşantepe Neighborhood of the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır. We pray to God to have mercy on our daughter Narin. May she rest in peace.”

The We Will Stop Femicide Platform made a statement, “At the end of 19 days, Narin was found murdered. If effective policies were implemented for children, Narin might not have gone missing at all, she might have been alive.”

DEM Party Children’s Commission Co-Spokespersons Beritan Güneş and İhsan Seylan drew attention to the fact that the stream bed had been searched before, and said, “Narin’s murder is not an isolated, judicial incident, but one of the most painful examples of child policy in Turkey!”

DEM Party MP Ömer Gergerlioğlu also said, “Strict control mechanisms should be established to protect children. Even if they are the closest relatives, children should be kept under surveillance with a protective approach.”

CHP leader Özgür Özel said, “I hope that the incident will be revealed in all its aspects and that the public will be informed quickly and accurately during this process,” and thanked the security forces and civilian teams who carried out the search efforts.
