Paralympic Games – Tatyana Lebrun fifth in the final of the 100m breaststroke in para-swimming

Tatyana Lebrun took 5th place in the final of the 100m breaststroke event in class SB9 during the para-swimming events at the Paris Paralympic Games on Friday.

In the La Défense Arena pool, the 19-year-old from Stavelot swam in 1:18.39, having also achieved the 5th time in the series in 1:18.25. The Dutchwoman Chantalle Zijderveldworld record holder (1:10.99) since Tokyo, became Paralympic champion in 1:13.74 ahead of the Chinese Meng Zhang2nd in 1: 15.05. Another Dutchwoman Lisa Kruger is 3rd in 1:17.14.

This is the second appearance of Tatyana Lebrun at the Paralympic Games. The swimmer from the Saint-Vith club finished 11th in the 100m breaststroke SB9 at the Tokyo Games where she was the youngest member of the Belgian delegation. Her best result at the World Championships is a 3rd place in 2022 in Funchal, Portugal.

Born with Larsen Syndrome, a genetic disease that affects the bones and joints, Tatyana Lebrun has undergone several operations, particularly on her knees. Doctors told her that she would probably never be able to walk, so she turned to swimming at the highest level. After initially competing in the able-bodied circuit, a disqualification for a bad breaststroke movement made her turn to the disabled circuit. The SB9 class is a class of breaststroke swimmers with a slight deficiency in a part of the lower body, between the hips and the feet.
