The Figaro Nice

A 7-year-old girl is between life and death after being violently hit by a motorbike in Vallauris, near Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), Thursday evening a little before 7 p.m. Transported urgently to the Lenval hospital in Nice under police escort, she was put into an artificial coma. Unconscious when the firefighters arrived, she suffered a head trauma and several fractures. Her vital prognosis remains “very committed”the Grasse public prosecutor’s office said in a statement early Friday afternoon.

As she was about to cross a pedestrian crossing with her 11-year-old brother, she was knocked down by a motorbike that was overtaking a vehicle in the other lane. “in rear wheel”indicate police sources, who describe a brutal shock due to the speed at which the reckless driver was arriving.

Negative screening

A 19-year-old individual was quickly arrested after these events by the municipal police. According to initial information, he is unknown to the police and justice services. After screening, he did not test positive for alcohol consumption or drug use.

License holder “corresponding to the category of vehicle used”he was driving a 600 cubic centimeter, restricted motorcycle, of the Yamaha brand according to our information. The young man was taken into custody at the Antibes police station, prosecuted on charges of “unintentional injuries resulting in total incapacity for work exceeding three months by manifestly deliberate violation of a particular obligation of safety or prudence by the driver of a land motor vehicle”, specified the public prosecutor of Grasse.

“Criminal behavior”

“Immense anger!”reacted the Nice MP Éric Ciotti on his X account, asking “zero tolerance for these road offenders”The mayor of Vallauris Golfe-Juan, Kévin Luciano (Les Républicains), also shared “a feeling of anger” on the microphone of BFMTV. “There is anger, incomprehension and a lot of sadness for this family in pain and fear.”he added.

The elected official also explained that it was not necessary “not talking about urban rodeo”. “That’s not the case. You have an individual who is engaging in criminal behavior, driving way too fast and doing a wheelie on a busy road.”he said. In June, the mayor had noticed this phenomenon of “urban rodeos”, with vehicles on the sidewalks, during a wedding, which he had ended up canceling.

This road accident comes just four days after the sudden death of a police officer in Mougins after refusing to comply, which shocked and moved the whole of France.
