First Belgian medal at the Paralympic Games: Vromant wins silver in the individual pursuit

Here it is, the first Belgian medal in these 2024 Paralympic Games! Competing in the individual pursuit event in the MC2 category, Ewoud Vromant40, decked himself out in silver this Friday afternoon.

2nd in the qualifications and therefore qualified for the final for the gold medal, our compatriot unfortunately came up against a stumbling block in the person of the young phenomenon Alexandre Leauté (23 ans).

Defending champion, author of a supersonic time in qualifying and holder of the new world record (3:24.298), the Frenchman left Vromant no chance, taking a few lengths ahead from the first few meters. A gap that the Belgian, despite a great last stand, never managed to close.

In any case, despite the defeat in the final, the Belgian will leave the Parisian track with the feeling of duty accomplished. Especially since three years ago, he was disqualified in the same event in Tokyo. A sweet feeling of revenge therefore for our compatriot, who offers the Belgian delegation its very first medal.

It was the goal to take a medal here. I signed the 2nd time in qualifying, it was perfect, it assured me a medal and it assured me the final for gold. I showed up without stress in the final, I had nothing to lose. I gave everything, I knew that the Frenchman is very strong. I know him well, he has already beaten me several times” he confided to the microphone of Cedric Lizin after arrival.
