Liechtenstein lost each of their six Nations League matches in the 2022/23 campaign, which contributed to them dropping to 199th in the FIFA Ranking, but results have improved in recent months to inspire confidence heading into this fixture. Two of their last three matches ended in draws, 1-1 against Latvia and 0-0 with Romania, and the “proud” coach said his team deserves “absolute respect” for their performance in the latter of those two games in particular.
However, their previous record in the competition does not inspire much confidence in that, given that Roberto Cevoli’s side finished bottom of their group in the 2022/23 season after losing each of their four games without scoring a goal. But if the 2024 generation is looking for inspiration, perhaps they can take a cue from the fact that San Marino’s only previous international win came against this match’s opponents Liechtenstein in a friendly in 2004.
