Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal joins Union Saint-Gilloise

The Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal has signed with Union Saint-Gilloise. The winger has signed a contract until 2026 with the Unionists, the Brussels club announced on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Moroccan was without a club after the end of his contract with the Al-Rayyan club in Qatar where he had been playing since September 2023.

The Moroccan was trained in Angers where he made his professional debut in September 2014. A few months later, he signed with Lille where he would compile 15 goals and 10 assists in 51 matches before heading to the Premier League to Southampton during the summer of 2016. This winger played 84 matches with the ‘Saints’ for 5 goals and 5 assists and was also loaned to Celta Vigo during the 2018-2019 season. Sofiane Boufal then returned to Angers in 2020 before joining Al-Rayyan. He only played 6 matches last season with the Qatari club, scoring 1 goal.

A Moroccan international, he has 46 caps with the Atlas Lions. He was a starter during Morocco’s run to the 2022 World Cup, which ended in 4th place after a 2-0 victory against the Red Devils in the group stage.
