Paul Magnette’s work in Charleroi is done. Not perfect, but done. It is up to Thomas Dermine to provide the first city of Wallonia with the “human flesh” that it still lacks.

Thomas Dermine is therefore opening a new chapter for Charleroi. Or, at least, closing that of Paul Magnette. For a new one, we will have to wait for the verdict of the ballot boxes. The sequence was done without too many clashes even if Julie Patte, acting mayor and first alderman of Paul Magnette, did not fail to admit a certain disappointment, while putting herself at the service of the newcomer. For Dermine, this will be a second big challenge in two months. After having launched himself into the unknown – a first electoral campaign and, moreover, as head of the list – and having transformed the test, he is this time offering himself the possibility of succeeding Paul Magnette in Charleroi, president of the PS and renovator of the city of Charleroi for the last twelve years. The task will not be easy against an MR that has the wind in its sails. It will be all the less so since Paul Magnette has succeeded in doing what few mayors manage to do: changing the characteristics of his commune and making it more acceptable.
