TAtyana Lebrun won the bronze medal in the 200m individual medley, in the SM10 category, in para swimming at the Paris Paralympic Games, Saturday, in the Paris La Défense Arena pool.

Lebrun swam in 2:32.79. China’s Meng Zhang won in 2:26.81 ahead of Hungary’s Bianka Pap (2:29.02). Netherlands’ Lisa Kruger had initially finished behind them and ahead of Lebrun, but she was disqualified.

Lebrun, 19, thus won her first Paralympic medal. She brings a 15th medal to the Belgian delegation, whose total now stands at 7 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.

On Friday, August 30, Tatyana Lebrun ranked 5th in the 100m breaststroke. She then participated in the 100m butterfly, without ambition and “for fun”, and finished in last place in the series on Tuesday.

The swimmer from Saint-Vith is experiencing her second Paralympic Games, after competing in the 100m breaststroke (11th) at the Tokyo Games three years ago. At the World Championships, she already won a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke in Funchal (Portugal) in 2022. This year, she won silver in the 200m medley and bronze in the 100m breaststroke at the Euro in Madeira (Portugal).

The S10 category is reserved for athletes with mild weakness in the legs, or restricted movement in the pelvis, or impairment of both feet, or mild impairment of part of a limb. Tatyana Lebrun was born with Larsen Syndrome, a genetic disease that affects the bones and joints.
