The man wanted after the death of two young people in the Deauville region () was arrested on the night of Friday January 24 to Saturday January 25 in Pas-de-, the prosecutor of the Republic of , Joël Garrigue, confirming information from RTL.

While trying to escape a police check, the man lost control of his vehicle and was arrested in Pas-de-Calais, according to a source close to the case. He was wanted after the discovery of the bodies of a man and a woman as a couple, in the town of Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains, a town located less than ten kilometers from Deauville. Found on Thursday, they had been missing since the day before.

Gunshot and violent blows to the face

“A man aged around thirty, residing in the town of Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains, who would have been in contact with the victims on the day of January 22, is currently actively sought by the national gendarmerie,” the Caen prosecutor announced on Friday, specifying that this man was “potentially armed and dangerous”.

The autopsy of the deceased young man confirmed that he “presented head trauma and traces of violent blows to the face” and that he “was the victim of a gunshot”. The autopsy of his companion will take place in “early next week”, added the prosecutor.

The Caen public prosecutor's office said Thursday evening that it ignored “the circumstances in which these two young people were killed” and the possible motivations for the double homicide. “No hypothesis is excluded,” he had indicated. A judicial investigation was opened against X on charges of murder and investigations are continuing under the direction of an investigating judge.
