He confessed to his crime. A drunken sixty-year-old confessed to the murder of his partner, whose body was found lifeless at his home in Luçon, in Vendée, the La Roche-sur-Yon prosecutor's office announced on Saturday. Friday, “the police station (Hauts-de-) was informed that a drunken man, aged 61, had revealed that he had killed his partner at her home in Luçon”, indicated in a press release the public prosecutor of La Roche-sur-Yon, Sarah Huet.

Friday evening, while he was intoxicated at Cambrai hospital, the sixty-year-old confessed. He would have specified in particular that he had killed his partner by strangulation two days earlier. “The gendarmes went to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of a 69-year-old woman,” says the prosecutor. The man is taken into custody. »

The prosecution, citing the ongoing investigation, did not wish to confirm “the exact nature of the relationship between the victim and the person in custody as well as the precise date of the facts”. The Cambrai public prosecutor's office confirmed to AFP that it had withdrawn during the night in favor of the La Roche-sur-Yon public prosecutor's office from the investigation opened for murder by a spouse.

In 2023, 96 women were victims of marital femicide in France. A figure down 19% compared to 2022, according to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior published at the end of November.
