Figure of the FFBB since 2010, Jean-Pierre Siutat will leave the presidency of the French Basketball Federation in December 2024. On the occasion of the Elective General Assembly of the FFBB scheduled for December 14, he is his right-hand man and current number 2 of the Federation , Jean-Pierre Hucklerwho should succeed him.
After 28 years of work within the FFBB, the Lotois wants to stop there: “I have served my time, I still have six months left at the CNOSF [dont il est vice-président, ndlr] and I'm going to give up my place”, he tells the local daily The Dispatch. “I no longer have any ambition anywhere. » Before retiring, the 65-year-old leader took stock of the Federation under his presidency, whether at the professional or federal level.
“Between 5×5 and 3×3, the various French teams have collected more than 120 medals on the international scene since 2010. That’s for performance, with good progress. The three (silver) medals obtained at the Games show that we are not very far from the United States, the top of the world level. And in the field of development, the FFBB has almost gained 300,000 additional licensees (from 460,000 to 766,000, source FFBB). We are the 4th sport in France, behind football, tennis and horse riding. »
In recent years, the number of licensees has only increased for basketball, with example a total of 765,909 licensees for the 2023-2024 season. And it is therefore the day after a royal summer of 2024 for French basketball, with two silver medals at the Paris Olympics, that Jean-Pierre Siutat will bow out at the head of the FFBB. Before leaving the presidency, the leader nevertheless took part in the decision on the identity of the new coach of the France team, with the appointment of Frédéric Fauthoux to succeed Vincent Collet. During the Olympic summer, Jean-Pierre Siutat was also at the center of media attention, following a clash with a French player during the Games, probably Evan Fournier, which he did not return.
