The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas warned on Tuesday that the Israeli plan aimed at expanding the attack on the Gaza Strip is equivalent to “sacrificing” the captives held in the enclave.
On Sunday, the Israeli security cabinet approved a plan aimed at expanding the current war against the Gaza Strip and occupying territories inside the Palestinian enclave.
“The (Israeli) occupation firm of plans to expand the offensive on the ground in Gaza translates an explicit decision to sacrifice the Israelis detained in captivity in the enclave,” said Hamas in a statement.
He described the Israeli decision “renewal of the spiral of failure” in the last 20 months, without “achieving the declared objectives”.
Hamas said the statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu on an enlargement of the war against the Gaza Strip “reflect its insistence to commit more crimes against civilians with the complicity of the American administration.”
The Palestinian resistance movement has called the Arab and Islamic nations, the United Nations and the international community to “take immediate measures to slow down the government of fascist occupation and translate its leaders to international justice”.
According to Israeli estimates, there are 59 captives still detained in the Gaza Strip, 24 of which are still alive. On the other hand, more than 9,500 Palestinians continue to languish in the Israeli jails in difficult conditions, with in particular cases of torture, deprivation of food and medical neglect, according to organizations for the defense of Palestinian and Israeli rights.
Since October 2023, more than 52,600 Palestinians have been killed by the genocidal war waged by Israel in Gaza, including a majority of women and children.
In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and its former Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated in the Gaza Strip.
Israel is also prosecuted for “crime of genocide” before the International Court of Justice (CIJ), due to the war he waged against the Palestinian enclave.
