Paul Arcand’s press review | Trump is attacking the film industry: “A blow for Montreal”

On the occasion of his press review on Monday, Arcand comments on the announcement of the American president who now wants to tackle the cinema industry by imposing customs duties of 100 % on all films produced outside the States.

He deplored that the American cinema industry was dying, in particular because other countries have implemented incentive measures to attract directors.

In Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal […] A film is often like a car, there are components that come from different countries especially in large American productions […] How will it apply? We don’t know it yet […] It’s a blow. In Montreal, many technicians earn their lives through foreign productions, American productions. Not only because the costs are lower with the exchange rate, but because over the years, expertise has developed here and Quebec.
