This decision was made so that an internal investigation can take place concerning a collision of little avoided last Friday, according to what Politico reports.
An army helicopter would then have deflected outside of its initial flight plan, forcing two planes carrying passengers to divert from their trajectory during landing.
Army operations near Ronald-Reagan airport have been particularly monitored since the collision in January between a helicopter and an American Airlines plane which sunk in the Potomac river, killing 67.
The helicopters of the 12th American army battalion are notably assigned to the evacuation of important personnel in the event of an emergency evacuation of the Pentagon.
