About 3000 lambs died in a Tarn farm following a ventilation failure caused by a thunderstorm on the night of Saturday to Sunday, we learned on Monday from the management.
“There is a storm that fell on the site, it was lightning that fell on the building” generating an electric cut that stopped ventilation, told AFP Grégory Allié, general manager of the OVI Plateau Central company, owner of this farm located in Saint-Jean-de-Marcel (Tarn).
“Everyone is in shock,” said Grégory Allied, his company working with several families of breeders. “It happened in the night and in the morning at the first hour, we faced the scale of the disaster,” he said, confirming information from “La Dépêche du Midi”. Some 3000 animals died, while a thousand could be saved.
The building affected was “modern” and active “for a few months,” said the director general of the company, adding that the Lacaune lambs raised on site were intended for marketing in France.
