Russia like Ukraine “will have to account” and “if the ceasefire is not respected, the United States and its partners will impose other sanctions,” threatened the American president on his Truth Social network.

Donald Trump called on a “unconditional 30-day ceasefire” in Ukraine on Thursday, while Volodymyr Zelensky said he was open to “all negotiation formats” with Russia.
In doing so, the American president, who is impatient to end the conflict three years after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, clearly put pressure on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Russia like Ukraine “will have to account” and “if the ceasefire is not respected, the United States and its partners will impose other sanctions,” threatened the American president on his Truth Social network.
He judged that a cease-fire should lead to a “lasting peace” and promised to “remain engaged” in the discussions in this sense, despite the fact that Washington has been threatening for several weeks to disengage for lack of agreement.
“Thirty days of silence”
The American president had just met with the Ukrainian president, who said that kyiv “was ready for a full ceasefire starting now, now-30 days of silence”.
Earlier Thursday, the Ukrainian Parliament ratified a mineral agreement, signed with the United States after weeks of stormy negotiations and which could, according to kyiv, pave the way for new American military aid.
The Ukrainian President considered that this text already opened a “new chapter” in relations between kyiv and Washington. He also said that Ukraine was “ready” to lead “all negotiation formats” with Moscow to find a way out of the conflict.
No meeting planned with Putin
“But for this to happen, Russia must show that it seriously wants to finish the war, starting with a complete and unables-free ceasefire,” continued the Ukrainian president, in a message published on social networks.
At the same time, the American president also spoke with the new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, who came into office on Tuesday. During this telephone interview, Donald Trump assured Chancellor, according to Berlin, that he supported European efforts “with a view to lasting peace” in Ukraine.
Asked at the White House to find out if he could meet the Russian president in Saudi Arabia next week, Donald Trump replied: “I don’t think, but we have very good conversations. Very, very good. “
“No truce”
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin welcomed his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Moscow, on the eve of the celebrations of the May 9 for which Vladimir Putin ordered a truce in Ukraine. The two leaders once again displayed their agreement in the face of a West presented as “hegemonic”.
Despite the entry into force on the night of the truce announced by Vladimir Putin until Saturday, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy Andriï Sybiga accused the Russian army of attacking “all over the front line”, evoking hundreds of violations of the ceasefire.
The minister promised an “appropriate” replica of the Ukrainian army to these attacks, while the Russian forces assured, “strictly respect” the truce, simply claiming to “respond” to Ukrainian violations.
“No truce so far,” a spokesman for the Ukrainian brigade Khartia, who operates in the Kharkiv region (northeast) confirmed at midday.
