Zambia U20 coach Boyd Mulwanda has revealed they have worked on their finishing as they prepare to face Tanzania in their third Group A at the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Young Chipolopolo are yet to win a game in the competition, kicking off with a 0-0 draw against Sierra Leone before drawing 0-0 against hosts Egypt.

“We started preparing for the Tanzania game immediately after our game, the boys did recovery and it was good there are no concerns, everyone looks positive from the recovery session, and we have been working on our finishing to make sure we can score goals to get a win,” Mulwanda told FAZ Media of the Tanzania game.

“So far so good, the boys are positive, they have showed that they want to win, it is a very crucial and important match for us to win the game, so that we give ourselves hopes to qualify for the quarter-finals, it is not an easy game, because even Tanzania belief if they win the game, they stand a chance to qualify, so that makes the game very tricky for us.

“Looking at the way the boys are responding to training, we are ready, we have told the boys to go and fight and win the game, it is not going to be easy, it will be very difficult, we have tried to use the chances that we create, and the positive side form my end is we create chances, and now we need to use the chances.”

So far in the group, Sierra Leone remain top with six points after their earlier 1-0 win over Tanzania, while Egypt sit second. Zambia stay in the hunt with two points and will go into their final group game needing a win to secure a knockout berth.

Egypt, meanwhile, will have to avoid defeat in their final group match to and ease growing pressure from home supporters, who were hoping for a strong after the humiliating loss to debutants Sierra Leone.
