A point on the evolution of the situation in Portugal
As we said in a previous post, according to our correspondent Sandrine Morel, in Portugal as in Spain, the current was completely cut around 12:30. The Portuguese Prime Minister, Luis Montenegro, wanted to specify in the early afternoon that “Origin” cut -off “Is not in Portugal” And that the Minister of Defense asked the inhabitants to limit travel and calls to emergency numbers to cases of real necessity.
However, as in Madrid and Barcelona, traffic lights have stopped working, causing terrible traffic jams in Lisbon and Porto. And the inhabitants rushed in the stores to buy candles or torches lamps, but also water, toilet paper and food. Dozens of flights were canceled at Lisbon airport. Since 6:30 p.m., the current has started to be restored in several provinces of the country.
Also, the Portuguese national authority for emergencies and civil protection said that emergency feeding systems worked. Police have deployed more agents in service to deal with the increase in assistance requests, especially from people stuck in elevators.
Several oars of the Lisbon metro have been evacuated, according to reports. The courts suspended their activities, and automatic ticket distributors and electronic payment systems have been affected.
