Tottenham secured their place in the Europa League final on Thursday, as they overcame Bodo/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate.

Ange Postecoglou’s side took a healthy 3-1 lead to Norway as the London club aimed to reach their first European final since 2019.

Spurs then finished the job off, thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro which saw the visitors win 2-0 on the night to set up a final against Manchester United in Bilbao later this month.

There was jubilant from many Tottenham fans thanks to the result, with Jamie O’Hara even taking a dig at Arsenal fans in the aftermath.

However, amidst the celebrations, Spurs almost lost their clean sheet at the end of the match after the referee made a “terrible decision” to award the hosts a penalty.

In the last seconds of the match, with the tie all but wrapped up, the hosts were awarded a penalty by the referee.

Porro was deemed to have tripped one of the Bodo/Glimt players inside the box in added time.

This decision then went to VAR, who quickly overturned the referee’s decision and helped the London club keep their clean sheet.

However, Paul Robinson was not amused by the original decision to award the spot-kick as he slammed the officials.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (8 May, 21:54), he said: “That’s never, ever a penalty. That’s one of the worst decisions I’ve seen.”

Clean sheet tops a great night for Tottenham

While it may matter little in the tie, the clean sheet is no doubt the icing on the cake for a memorable night in Tottenham’s history.

There was a big concern going into the match despite the two-goal lead. Bodo/Glimt’s incredible home record made nothing certain.

However, Spurs have overcome this challenge in style and are deservedly in the final of the Europa League.

Now, all that is left for Tottenham is to finish the job against Man United and make sure that trophy comes back to London.

They’ve beaten their Premier League counterparts three times already this season, now it’s time to make it four and claim history along the way.
