BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Union (EU) will publish a plan on Tuesday to ban new Russian gas contracts by the end of the year and to gradually stop existing contracts with Russia by the end of 2027, three officials told Reuters in the European Bloc.
The European Commission must present during the day a “roadmap” detailing the way it plans to end imports of Russian fossil fuels by 2027.
According to officials, this plan will propose to prohibit new Russian gas import contracts by the end of the year as well as cash contracts.
It will also include a commitment to prohibit imports of Russian gas and liquefied natural gas within the framework of existing contracts by the end of 2027, added the sources that wanted to keep anonymity.
This plan, which must be approved by the European Parliament and the qualified majority of EU member countries, could still be changed by its publication on Tuesday.
