The race for quarter final qualification continues in group C of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as the Central African Republic (CAR) face the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Ghana tackle Senegal on Monday.
Both games will take place at the New Suez stadium with CAR and DRC kicking off proceedings at 5pm CAT, followed by Ghana against Senegal at 8pm CAT.
Things remained level after matchday one in group C on Friday, as Senegal drew 1-1 with CAR while Ghana also held DRC to a 1-1 draw. All four sides are equal on points and goal difference as things stand.
As all teams in group C are chasing their first win of this year’s edition of the tournament, DRC are after their first even win at the U20 AFCON, having a record of four draws and two losses across their appearances at the competition. CAR are also looking to snap a five game losing streak at the competition, having drawn two and lost three of their last five appearances at the U20 AFCON.
As the tournament’s reigning champions, Senegal can be expected to throw their full force at Ghana in order to progress to the knockout stage and defend their title. They will also look to keep their twelve-game unbeaten streak in the competition’s group stages alive.
Ghana will be itching to return to winning ways after drawing their tournament opener, ending a run of winning their previous three opening fixtures of the tournament. They will be chasing their second win in their last seven group stage fixtures at the U20 AFCON finals.
