Two people were seriously injured in the fire Saturday evening around 8:00 p.m. of an apartment on the ground floor in Zurich. Two others were more slightly injured. The firefighters saved a person from the higher apartments using a swivel scale.
Upon arrival of firefighters, paramedics and municipal police at the fire, the apartment was fully on fire and thick black smoke rose, the Zurich rescue services said on Saturday. A person on the upper floors could not escape by the stairwell due to the smoke. The firefighters were able to put it in safety.
Other inhabitants of the building managed to save themselves outside before the arrival of the help. The firefighters searched the building using respiratory aircraft and made sure that no one was inside.
On site, health services have taken care of four people. Three of them were poisoned by smoke and one had their hands burned. The emergency services administered oxygen to a cat and entrusted it to the veterinary hospital.
In the evening, the firefighters carried out measures of the carbon monoxide rate and the inhabitants were able to reintegrate the building, with the exception of the apartment on the ground floor, which is uninhabitable. Municipal police and cantonal police specialists are determining the causes of the fire.
