In Monfalcone, municipality of 30,000 inhabitants in the north of the peninsula, the country’s first Islamist party presented itself in the elections. If the vote has resulted in a monumental fiasco, the town is still at the heart of the information.
Small northern town in the province of Gorizia, Monfalcone concentrates the highest percentage of immigrants resident of Italy, they represent 34 % of the inhabitants. Bengali in mind, they were attracted for two decades by the promises of hiring of Fincantieri, a huge shipyard. The problems of cohabitation with the local population follow one another-dismantling a terrorist cell, closings of illegal mosques, destroyed nurseries etc-with always in the background the reality of an impossible integration: impossible because it is not wanted.
In city schools, the percentage of students of foreign origin is 64%, and in certain classes it culminates at 90%. Girls are allowed to attend Burka lessons completely covering their face.
12/23/23: 8,000 Muslims paraded to oppose the closure of past cultural centers for mosques (and receiving state subsidies as such).
Communitarianism has cemented around the religion of Muhammad. An illustrated reality in the recent municipal elections that took place last Sunday, where an openly Muslim list arose. Of the 19 candidates of “Italia Plural”, none is of Italian origin and the party has only a woman. It is made up of naturalized Asians and Africans, as to want to say “anything but Italians”. The candidate for the mayor of Monfalcone is an engineer from Senegal, Bou Konate, ex-deputy for public works and president of a prayer center. In this extract from a report on the closure of illegal mosques, he refused to speak with a journalist woman arguing that she was “too small”.
The party is supported by the famous Aboubakar Soumahoro, the Ivorian at the heart of a vast scandal of embezzlement of funds and ill -treatment of migrants who now militates in the National Assembly to make public holidays the end of Ramadan.
But the fairly vague program of the Islamist party only collected 2.9% consensus (343 votes)devoting a overwhelming victory of the most anti-immigrationiste From the region, the Lega, the candidate Luca Fasan winning with 70.9% (8,272 votes). In a note published on networks, Soumahoro said that this failure was only a first step:
“Today in Monfalcone, we have told everyoneThere is no need to delegate your bodies to others to be accepted and legitimized. Today, in Monfalcone, we have lit a small light which, unstoppable, will cross all of Italy and will awaken hope in everyone.«

In short, no need for Italians to manage our business.
For Antonio Polito, journalist at The Corriere della Sera, national daily life, however favorable to multiculturalism, the creation of the first Islamic party in the country « The end of a democracy that is no longer divided on the basis of ideals and programs, but of ethnicity and faith. »
