IGA Swiatek rebounded after having collected one of the worst defeats in his career by signing a one-way victory of 6-1, 6-0 against the local favorite, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, in the second round of the Rome tennis omnium on Thursday.
Swiatek said she was concerned about “personal issues” when she was rossized 6-1, 6-1 by the American Coco Gauff in the Madrid Omnium semi-finals last week.
Swiatek, the second seeded, won Rome’s omnium three times, but she has still not participated in a final this year. She brought her file to 21-2 in the Italian capital since 2021.
Rome Omnium is the last preparatory tournament before the start of the French internationals, which will start on May 25. The Polish has won four of her five Grand Chelem titles in a career in Roland Garros.
Swiatek will face the American Danielle Collins in the next round, Tombuse of the Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-3, 6-3 in the second round.
The other three players among the first 10 series heads who were in action on Thursday won their duel.
The Améericians Jessica Pegula (3) in the vaincu SA Compatathe Ashlyn Krueger 6-4, 6-2. L’American Padrea Go to French Varuver 7.6 (4) Rena E Italian and Italian luli Salv 6-4, 6-3.
Canadian women Leylah Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu and Victoria Mboko will be in action on Friday.
On the men’s side, no seeded was in action on Thursday. The second round will take off on Friday, while 16 series heads will start their tournament.
