In a long interview with The worldin which various subjects were discussed, Boris Becker dwell on the case of Carlos Alcaraz.
If the young Spaniard is sometimes compared to his compatriot Rafael Nadal, the German legend has however issued a reserve as to the ability of the young Spanish to bear this pressure of being and having to stay at the top indefinitely.
“It is a very difficult pressure to bear, because there is only one Rafa and there will be only one. That said, Carlos is leaving her own imprint in his own way. He is still very young and the best is to come, but it is impossible to guess how long a tennis player will stay at the top. I would like Carlos still plays 10 or 15 years old, because for me, he is the most exciting tennis player in the world today. The Spanish, and especially journalists, must be careful and not judge him too severely each time he loses a match, because he is a player very different from what Nadal was. Carlos has more natural talent, but no other sportsman in history has had and will never have the heart of Rafa. Carlos is fantastic, Novak [Djokovic] and Roger [Federer] are legends, but Rafa was at another level of competitiveness. If, in a tournament, you see that you were going to face Nadal … good luck, my friend. »»
