SUUNTO RACE S: an ultra-polish intelligent watch for outdoor enthusiasts

-

In a where smart watches multiply, the Sunto Race s succeeds in making a place of choice. Lighter, smaller and more affordable than its big sister, the Suunto Race, it is aimed at athletes who want everything without doing too much. We tested it … and we approve it!

A discreet, but strong format

First contact: format. With its 43 mm case for only 55 grams, the breed is to be forgotten on the wrist.

Compact, but well readable, it will appeal to runners as much to cyclists, hikers or enthusiasts of winter activities such as cross -country skiing.

Its ultra -bright Amoled screen, protected by Gorilla glass, shines even in full sun. A very interesting asset when it hits hard outside or in winter with the reflection of on the snow.

A really multi multisport watch

The breed S is a bit of the knife of GPS watches. There are more than 95 integrated sports profiles, from the triathlon trail, through hiking, and mountain bikes. It is even capable of automatically detecting the activity even if the user does not launch it himself.

The GPS ensures impressive monitoring precision and the wrist cardiofrequency is very reliable as long as you squeeze the watch.

On the autonomy side, the watch holds between 30 and 120 depending on the GPS mode used and up to 9 days for daily use without training.

The interface is clear, easy and intuitive navigation and post-activity data, synchronized with the Suunto app, allow good performance reading.

For adventures (not too) connected

Those who like to keep a foothold in modernity will appreciate the notifications of texts or other messenger messages, the widgets Weather or integration with Komoot and Strava.

But the breed S remains sober in its approach: no on -board music, no contactless . Just what it takes to focus on the essentials: moving, exploring and (trying to) surpass yourself.

What we a little less

No watch is perfect, and the S race also has its flaws. The bracelet fixing system deserves a small adjustment: it can inadvertently detach itself, especially when handling technical clothes or a backpack.

Another downside, the touch screen lacks a bit of responsiveness: when it comes out of standby, which can annoy when you just want to a data in full effort.

Verdict: a watch that offers a lot, for less

With a starting price under $ 500, the Sunto Race s strikes hard. It does not compete on all levels with high -end models, but it checks almost all boxes for a wide range of outdoor activities.
