The problem of Gothard traffic jams is in the viewfinder of the National. The latter wants to act, in particular by allowing the cantons concerned to be able to temporarily close cantonal roads affected by avoidance traffic. He adopted two motions on Tuesday in Bern.

The commission motion, adopted by 101 votes to 92, wants to ensure that the cantons affected by avoidance traffic can, in the event of significant overload, temporarily close the cantonal roads concerned. Local residents and service providers are excluded from the ban.

The National validated, by 96 votes against 93 and four abstentions, another commission motion, so that the operators of navigation devices are required to report the closings of ordered roads. The Federal Council was opposed to the two texts. The Council of States will have to decide.

In the process, the People’s House refused, by 108 votes to 82, an initiative of the canton of Uri requesting in particular an online reservation system of circulation slots. The traffic jams in the Gothard will soon be only a distant memory.
