The public prosecutor of the Confederation (MPC) filed an indictment to the court against a 21 -year -old Swiss. The young man, who lives in the canton of Basel-city, is suspected of having supported in 2023 the terrorist group prohibited Islamic State by planning a trip to Somalia to join him, he said on Monday.
The MPC also criticizes him for having sent IS propaganda equipment to several people through various communication channels. To join the group, the defendant would have actively sought to get in touch with IS recruiters and would have maintained close exchanges with them for several months.
In addition, the young man would have produced several video files containing extreme representations of violence. Moreover, during his arrest on July 9, 2024, by Fedpol, he would have been in possession of 20 other similar scenes, underlines the MPC.
According to the indictment, he was also in possession of pornography prohibited at the time of his arrest. In addition, during a search at his home, a Softair weapon, which the accused had illegally had, was also seized. In January 2021, he would also have committed a burglary with an accomplice in a store in Basel.
The young man is currently in freedom, specifies the public prosecutor of the Confederation, but Fedpol has ordered the police measures to fight against terrorism (MPT), he adds. He will be tried by the Bellinzone Federal Court.
