No less than thirty trade union or student organizations have voted a common resolution and are preparing to send their demands to the Federal Council. The latter announced at the beginning of the year that he counted to save 460 million francs in training, research and innovation, causing anger of student circles. And for good reason: the Gaillard Commission, mandated by the Federal Council in 2024 to suggest budget cuts, proposes to increase the “user funding” of the Swiss high schools.
Concretely, this means that students could see their registration fees explode. Young Swiss should expect a doubling of their contribution, while for foreign students, this tax could quadruple. If this announcement was very badly welcomed into Swissuniversities, the EPF Council, the Swiss National Fund, Innosuisse or even science academies, the same goes for the main concerned, gathered this Monday morning in Lausanne to denounce “this massive attack”.
