- The municipal election of Vernier is challenged following suspicions of manipulation of voting envelopes.
- The number of bulletins containing only Djawed Sangdel drops 33% in the second round.
- The chatelaine and Aïre-le Lignon sectors record the most significant drops.
On March 23, Djawed Sangdel signed a solid score in the first round from the election to the Vernier administrative council. He finished fifth, with 2089 votes.
Three weeks later, in the second roundhe fell to 1672 votes. A decrease of 20%.
This decline intervened in a tense context. Between the two towers, the “Tribune de Genève” revealed the existence of atypical bulletins in the race for the municipal council.
THE Detailed results Show an unprecedented number of modified and variegated lists in a one sense: LJS bulletins completed almost systematically by the names of three candidates from other parties (PS, PLR and MCG).
Doubts and elections
Indices that can let fear of manipulation, or even, in the worst case, fraud. The election is now disputed: the Council of State suspended its validation of the results of the municipal council, following several appeals and a criminal denunciation. He waits for justice to decide.
However, in the first round, the voters voted simultaneously for the administrative council and the municipal council. The doubts surrounding the bulletins for the legislature therefore imply that suspicious bulletins have potentially also been slipped for the Administrative Council, via the same shipment of voting equipment.
-In the first round, an intrigue figure: 951 bulletins contain only the name of Djawed Sangdel. It is even the most frequent voting formula of the ballot. She represents almost half of her voices. In the second round, this figure drops to 634: a brutal fall of 33%.
Most of the voting formulas associating Djawed Sangdel with other candidates also retreats strongly. The Staub-Buschbeck-Sangdel trio, recorded 316 times in the first round, only appears 178 times in the second. Conversely, the Duo Cerutti-Sangdel is gaining ground from 104 to 296 bulletins.
Dynamics by neighborhoods
The phenomenon is particularly marked in the chatelaine and aïre – the Lignon sectors. These are precisely the two voting premises where Djawed Sangdel recorded his best scores in the first round. In these districts, the “Sangdel alone” bulletins fell respectively from 311 to 216, and from 292 to 160.
In Vernier-Village and the Avantes, the drop is more moderate. These two sectors had contributed less to the initial dynamics. They seem less affected by the collapse of bulletins with a “compact” structure.
A dynamic that Laurent Seydoux, chief of the LJS campaign, mainly attributes to “the media fate against LJS and on Djawed Sangdel, who did not help to make a good result”.
The principal concerned, for its part, attributes its decline in several factors: “Media attacks have greatly impacted the campaign, moving me away from the field and direct exchanges with the population. The lower participation in the second round (Editor’s note: from 30.6% to 25.5%)as well as a certain climate of confusion and suspicion, have also weighed. ”
He adds that the doubts, “even unfounded, have created distrust and weakened the confidence of certain voters, which is regrettable”.
