At the gates of the Moroccan desert, “an almost unknown land meeting” with the Vienne technical commission.
The Vienne District Technical Commission was in educational and trainer missions in Zagora (Morocco) in early April, at the gates of the Moroccan desert. The little idea that had germinated in the head of Jean-Paul Blot, more than 10 years ago, him perfect connoisseur and guide in this beautiful country, resulted in the 4th Festival of Ecoliers du Désert. Around Jean-Paul, accompanied by Mathieu, his son, and Pascal, member of his family, four faithful “servants” of the technical commission of our department were present: Jean-Claude Barrault, better known as “Papa’s”, Patrick Ecalle, Arnaud Augereau and Jacques Dantan.
The remarkable event spread over three days, well orchestrated by the local association, was unanimously appreciated. Attractiveness is mainly explained by the innovative nature of this festival, punctuated by meetings and technical challenges, and the fact that everything takes place on the synthetic field of Zagora, with the precious support of four local referees. Spread over four land, 160 children, representatives of 16 schools in the primary sector, met on Monday. The next morning, six boys of surrounding colleges were present, before seeing the college girls (5 teams) take over in the afternoon. A total of 270 students came to play and refine their technique, and for some dream of Hakimi!
The analysis of the educators present is unanimous on the enthusiasm of young girls towards this practice in a festive atmosphere, just like the young college students attracted to competition but who are not lucky to have structured championships as in our districts, while the pitchounes of primary were hyperactive and passionate, some of which have remarkable technical and physical aptitudes. Wednesday was devoted in the morning to the visit of a school of 850 students, 65 % of which are young girls. The exchanges were fruitful with the director on important themes such as the practice of sport, diversity, tutoring, projection towards higher education and orientation towards professional training.
This 4th festival continued with a meeting of our Poitevins against a local team. Each of the 86, was able to “appreciate” … to play for the first time under a mini-set of sand! Speeches, thanks and awards have highlighted reception, logistics and local support (communities, schools, etc.). On this occasion, the Vienne district was warmly thanked for the endowments (chasubles, jerseys, polo shirts, etc.) and for the total investment of our representatives of the Vienna district. Each member present has borne the costs inherent in this stay which will remain an excellent memory. While waiting for 2026 to renew this adventure with perhaps some new features in the program …
