“By creating the University of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, I wanted to make it a rampart against religious intolerance,” said Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké this Wednesday, when receiving a delegation from the SSPP Le Soleil.
The delegation had come to transmit the greetings and respect of the director general, Lamine Niang, and reaffirm the availability of the newspaper to support the university in its noble mission of citizen training.
Sidy Diop, editorial advisor to the Managing Director, spoke on behalf of the delegation also made up of Alioune Badara Ndiaye (Commercial Service), Moussa Sow (Chief of the Photo Service) and Moussa Diop (Director of Digital Editorial).
The exchanges focused on current projects and the development prospects of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (UCAB) University.
Founded in 1974 by Serigne Mourtada Mbacké, the Al Azhar Institutes in Senegal, inspired by the prestigious Egyptian University of Cairo, served as a base for the emergence of UCAB. This was officially created on March 15, 2006 by his son, Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké, two years after the death of the founder.
“Our only ambition is to guarantee quality education accessible to everyone,” said the grandson of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba.
The main site of the University, located in Ndam – also called Daroul Alim Al Khabir (“the one looking for knowledge”, in Arabic) – Today welcomes more than 2,000 students oriented by the State, a dynamic initiated since 2013. The establishment has an amphitheater of 600 places, in accordance with the standards of major national universities.
Before their visit to Touba, the delegation went to the Mbao (Dakar) campus. Director Yankhoba Badiane presented a teaching center specializing in electromechanics, management IT and management, with courses given in Arabic, English and French.
In Bambey, UCAB offers agriculture and breeding training, combining theory and practice. Graduates can integrate incubation programs, allowing them to enhance their professional projects and live in the fruit of their work.“I will come to visit the sun,” said Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké, expressing his wish to formalize a sustainable collaboration between the University and the National Journal.
Today, the educational group led by Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké brings together 470 establishments, more than 90,000 students, and 2,600 teachers and administrative staff. In Touba alone, there are 11,000 students in 25 schools, with nearly 900 new graduates per year.
