According to information reported by Trust Magazine, the Senegalese minister for African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Ms. Yassine Fall, reported notable progress in the discussions engaged between Dakar and Nouakchott, with a view to improving the conditions of residence of the Senegalese living in Mauritania.
This declaration was made this Monday, April 28, during a space organized on the social network X, which brought together more than 6,000 participants. The minister said that an agreement was in the process of finalization. “A document is currently on the table in order to guarantee a more peaceful stay in our compatriots,” she said.
This initiative comes in a particularly delicate context. Since the beginning of the year, the multiplication of expulsion of migrants, notably Senegalese, on Mauritanian territory, has aroused great concern in civil society and human rights organizations. In response, the Senegalese authorities intensified their diplomatic approaches in January 2025. The Prime Minister’s official visit, Mr. Ousmane Sonko, in Nouakchott, notably led to a reduction in costs and a simplification of the procedures for obtaining the residence permit.
Last March, Mrs. Yassine Fall went to Mauritania in turn to give a message from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to her Mauritanian counterpart, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. She reiterated Senegal’s commitment to it in favor of reinforced bilateral cooperation, based on mutual respect and the protection of Senegalese nationals.
The agreement being developed, the signature of which is expected in the coming weeks, constitutes a major advance in favor of worthy living conditions, stable and secure for the Senegalese residing in Mauritania.
