It is the consecration of a very good season for the Stade de Reims Rugby. In Longwy, theater of regional rugby finals, The Rémois officially found the R1 this Saturday, after 2 years spent in R2. They offered little suspense in the R2 final Grand Est against Thann.

The match

After a very good first part of the championship punctuated by a first place in Pool B with 34 points in 8 games, 10 points ahead of Ardennes Rugby, the Stade de Reims Rugby then finished 1st in Pool 1 of qualifications with 44 points in 10 games. After that, the Reims stadium had the opportunity to participate in the final phase of the R2 with first an easy victory against the US Basin de Longwy 62-21 in the quarter-final), then continued its good series by a 44-3 victory against the Naborian RC on neutral field in Verdun. In the other semi-final it was the RC Thann who qualified for the final last Saturday. So this is the domineering course of the Stade de Reims Rugby to reach this ultimate stage.

So arriving in Longwy, in Meurthe-et-Moselle full of confidence, to compete in the first R2 final in its history, the Stade de Reims Rubgy confirmed its favorite status by overcoming RC Thann on the score of 42-17. The Rémois started the meeting at a high pace quickly taking advantage of 16-0 after only a quarter of an hour of play. Although Thann managed to react a minimum, the Stade de Reims Rugby led 31-13 at halftime. The second half less prolific in terms of points was still intense. A drop registered 5 minutes from the final whistle definitively seal the success and the title Rémois.

Thanks to this victory, the club finds the R1, two years after its descent. At first, the club’s goal for next season will be to obtain a quiet maintenance to build a project which will allow it to evolve in Federal 3 in 3 to 5 years.
