In Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), an infant just 16 days was found dead on the night of Monday to Tuesday, alongside his sleeping mother after breastfed it. According to Le Parisien, it was shortly after 2:30 am that the 35 -year -old woman alerted the emergency services, saying her baby was no longer breathing. Resuscitation attempts have remained in vain. The child was declared died at 3:15 am.
“The mother and the baby would have fallen asleep together,” says a daily police source. “But in her sleep, it is possible that she smothered him with the weight of her body. The infant presented a cyanose face when found. If the accidental track is envisaged, that of the sudden death of the infant is not excluded at this stage.
An autopsy of the baby planned
The Nanterre prosecutor’s office opened an investigation to “search for the causes of death”. This was entrusted to the Hauts-de-Seine territorial security brigade. An autopsy of the baby is planned to determine the circumstances of the death with precision.
This drama highlights the risks linked to the “coododo”, this increasingly widespread practice which consists in sleeping with your baby in the same bed. In France, the High Authority for Health (HAS) recommends that infants share the parents’ room during its first six months, but in a separate and secure bed. She recalls that “the newborn should be systematically lying on the back in a suitable bed”.
