In the rubble of Hollywood studio cinema, we are already happy when we discover a small, well -cracked thriller, neither too cynical nor too moron. Drop, by Christopher Landon – with his two Happy Birthdead In 2017 and 2019, the main revelation of Blumhouse productions behind Jordan Peele-is one of them: we can recognize in this clever thriller, made with real brilliance, the offspring not unworthy of a tradition that goes from Alfred Hitchcock to Mr. Night Shyamalan via Larry Cohen and Brian de Palma.
The opening resembles a standard horror film, with a young woman on the ground and covered with blood, threatened in her by an armed man. In reality, it is a flashback. Advisor for victims of domestic violence, widowed with a 5-year-old son, Violet herself recovered from a traumatic drama. But tonight, the thirties finally decided to give herself a new chance (and to men also at the same time). Encouraged by her sister who came to do the baby-sitter, she has an appointment with a guy contacted on a dating site. It is therefore the ball in the stomach that it arrives in a chic restaurant located at the top of an impressive glass tower.
