In a surprising approach, to say the least, the National Union of Professionals of Driving and Road Safety Education Establishments has officially seized the Minister of Transport and Logistics in order to claim the establishment of a separate driving license dedicated to vehicles with automatic transmission. A request that challenges, both by its timing and by the deep implications that it could generate in the current model of training in driving in Morocco.
The union justifies this proposal by the profound changes in the automotive industry worldwide, marked by a rise in automatic transmission vehicles. According to him, this trend requires a revision of training standards in order to stay in line with the technological and industrial realities of the moment.
He stresses that more and more manufacturers now favor this type of motorization, which also results in notable changes in road infrastructure. Faced with this upheaval, the organization considers that it is necessary to anticipate a progressive transition to a model where manual transmission vehicles would be relegated to the background, and where drivers should be trained specifically for the use of automatic transmissions.
In this regard, the union highlights several practical advantages. The document presents a series of technical, educational and security arguments in favor of the creation of a driving license specific to automatic transmission vehicles. First of all, the union stresses that driving this type of vehicle is simpler and more intuitive, especially in urban areas where dense circulation and frequent stops require great reactivity. This simplicity reduces the margins of error among beginner drivers, allowing them to focus more on their road environment rather than manual gear management.
The union also stresses that the use of automatic vehicles would help reduce stress behind the wheel and improve traffic fluidity, especially for drivers with light disabilities or coordination difficulties. In addition, he recalls that this category of vehicles would make it possible to expand access to driving license to profiles so far hampered by the complexity of the technical test, thus making the examination more inclusive. In terms of road safety, automatic transmission limits the risk of accidents linked to gear change errors, often observed in poorly experienced drivers.
Finally, the union recalls that several countries, both regional and international, have already adopted this approach, thus inviting the Moroccan authorities to set up a clear legal framework and a training offer adapted to support the evolution towards an automatic driving license.
