It is the big event that will surely attract many spectators. The last stage of 78e Romandie Tour will see the athletes rush at full speed through the Canton of Geneva. But not anywhere! For the second time in its history, the competition is organizing a time trial At the very heart of the Vieille-Ville.
The French-speaking high mass of the bicycle will see the cyclists start from rue Saint-Léger, above the Bastions, before rolling along the Bourg-de-Four and rue de l’Hotel-de-Ville. The athletes will then come back down to the new square, go back to the trench district and will eventually descend to the lake, with a long loop on the quays of the left bank. The stage will end not far from the starting point, to the bastions.
A good part of the route will therefore follow the same route as the climbing race. Between the cobblestones of the old town and the rainy weather announced for Sunday, it promises to be slippery for the runners!
Disturbed line 12
The entire event will be a time trial over 17 kilometers, which will notably ask cyclists to climb 100 meters by only 3 km, from the Thonon road to the Golf Club de Genève.
Of course, disturbances are expected. Even if the roads traveled by the athletes will not be closed all day, traffic will be strongly disturbed Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the town of Geneva, as well as in the municipalities of Colagny, Vandeuvres or Chêne-Bourg. Several axes of deviation will be implemented (see our graphic).
On the public transport side, the TPG announces that lines 2 and 25 will not run at all on Sunday. Bus 9 will only serve stops between Lignon and Chantepoulet.
Tram 12, for its part, will only drive between Lancy-Bachet and Plainpalais. For travelers to Moillesulaz, it will be necessary to borrow the 17th from Grange-Canal.
Fan zone in new place
Finally, here is the festivities schedule for the curious wishing to see cyclists parade. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., the runners will recognize the route, before giving way to the advertising caravan from noon to 1 p.m.
It was at this time that the first runner will start; The race will last until about 4 p.m.. The awards ceremony will take place about twenty minutes later.
And if you do not want to set up along the course, the organizers of the Romandie Tour recall that a “Tour village” will take up residence in place of Neuve. “The public will be able to applaud the winner of the stage and that of the general classification during the awards. The public will also be able to participate in the various activities offered by sponsors and partners, as well as follow the race on a giant screen, ”they underline.
