Beijing “firmly opposes that any party will reach an agreement to the detriment of the interests of China,” he added. “If such a situation occurs, China will never accept it and resolutely take reciprocal countermeasures”.

President Donald Trump imposed customs duties up to 145% on a large number of imported from China, which brings total up to 245% in some cases, for example for electric vehicles. Beijing replied by its own 125% tax on American products.

“Selfish interests”

The trade partners of the United States are struck by a 10%floor surcharge, while the into force of much higher customs duties was suspended by Mr. Trump on April 9 for 90 days, most of the countries concerned. Many of these have started discussions with Washington.

“Seeking your own temporary selfish interests to the detriment of the interests of others […] will ultimately fail on both sides and will harm others, “warned the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in its press release.
