Between , April 16 and Thursday, April 17, 2025, the Criminal Investigations Division (DIC) arrested 27 people in the management of COVVI-19 funds. At the same time, a sum of 258,448,233 CFA francs was recovered. The announcement was made this Thursday by the public prosecutor, Ibrahima Ndoye, during a press .

“The charges are underway. The persons concerned, whether those placed under the control of the investigating judges, those in police custody or those referred to the prosecution, all benefit from the possibility of recording. This amount, still provisional, could therefore evolve, ”said the magistrate.

Ibrahima Ndoye wanted to clarify the spirit of the procedure initiated. “The objective of these proceedings is not to transform anyone into a predator. We are not recovery agents, we are judicial authorities. The law provides for an exit door for the persons prosecuted, who still benefit from the presumption of innocence. The amount recovered has already been deposited at the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC). According to the prosecutor, if justice establishes criminal responsibility, these funds will be returned to the Senegalese people, having made important efforts to deal with the pandemic. Otherwise, requests for restitution may be submitted by those implicated.
