Arriving in Marseille from the A7, Bel-Horizon (3rd) is inevitable. Almost 60 meters high, a facade painted in two different colors to mark the presence of the two distinct condominiums attached to the same building and an already visible state of disrepair.
At the entrance to Bel-Horizon 1, the door does not close, the hall is covered with posters on obsolete fire safety and on the trustee’s resumption by judicial administrators. Only one of the two elevators works and serves the 19 floors and the 76 apartments in the largest of the two condominiums. Some brands of incivility but the whole still stands standing.
Ten meters further, a bunch of garbage stagnates in a puddle – it has not rained for days – and two young boys keep the entrance to Bel -Horizon 2. A procession of wandering people rush into the hall transformed into a deal point, which seems to be in hard drug. No elevator in working order here, common areas in a dirty state and a set of 57 dwellings that have switched to unworthy.
“Lower your head so as not to deal with the dealers”
The two condominiums are riddled with debts, the fire safety of this IGH (high -rise building) is no longer up to standard for ages, squats occupy certain floors and insecurity has won the Siamese towers. Like a summary of the state of degraded Marseilles condominiums.
