In front of the Emmaüs store, in Saint-Brieuc, the road still bears the stigma of the violent accident which cost the life of a 9-year-old child, Wednesday May 7. On a rescue exit gate and the boxed barriers, several bouquets of flowers and a little word were hung in tribute to the young victim.
“Everyone is in shock in the community,” explains Dominique Françoise, head of the local community of Emmaus. Tomorrow morning, we will bring everyone together to discuss what happened. Depending on the needs, we will call on a psychologist with the help of firefighters and the hospital center. »»
The father had come to lend a hand
The drama took place at the end of the day: “We had just closed the store and we started to make the cash register. People took their time to discuss a little, ”says Dominique Françoise.
-The victim’s family was about to get into his vehicle to return to his home. The father is a former companion, who had left the local community several years ago and had settled in the Rennes region with his wife. That day, he returned to “see the friends and give a hand”: “He did this regularly, especially if there was a bridge or a vacation. He was doing the service in passing. He notably helped us on the delivery of a piano that was difficult, ”explains the manager.
The driver would have made a discomfort
Everything changed when an SUV tumbled from the street in front of the store, hitting the family’s vehicle and touching the mother and her little daughter. “We were installing the barriers when we heard a big” Bang “. We immediately rescue the little one, who was injured in the arm, ”says a companion.
If the mother was only slightly injured, the little girl died of her injuries in the hospital in the evening. According to the first elements collected on the spot by the firefighters, the driver, 52 years old, would have made a discomfort, before losing control of her vehicle after having marked the stop. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.
