It’s the evening of the year. The one where we see the most extravagant outfits, the one where we find celebrities that we only rarely see, that which concentrates the attention of social networks, the aptly named: puts Gala. The annual charity gala for Anna Wintour Costume Center of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) of New York is held this Monday, May 5 with dozens of expected stars. We sum up everything you need to know.
What is the theme of this edition?
Each gala, its theme. After the flowers last year, the Met Gala this year highlights the costumes with the “cut for you” as a watchword.
This theme echoes the current exhibition at the Costume Institute of the Museum, called “Superfine: black Style Tailoring”, which returns to the way in which the multicultural mixture of African and European styles shaped black identity during the massive uprooting of African communities following the slave trade. Many of the outfits have echoed the fashion elements from African-American communities over the centuries.
When and where to follow the Met Gala?
Either you go to bed very early and get up, or you will fall asleep in the middle of the night: the kick -off of the Met Gala will be given at 6 p.m. (New York time) this Monday evening, or midnight in Paris. As you are probably not one of the lucky New Yorkers who will massage behind the barriers to see the largest stars around the museum, bet on a distance follow-up.
Unlike the United States, this international high mass of style is not broadcast on television in France. The easiest way is to look at one of the many broadcasts live on the Internet, including that of Vogue magazine (led by Anna Wintour) on YouTube. Many media will also distribute live content on their social networks, mainly Instagram and Tiktok.
Who presents this year?
Beautiful people! As every year since 1995, Anna Wintour is in the foreground. The British-American at the head of Vogue magazine since 1988 is the spearhead of this gala. This year, she is assisted by black personalities only, as part of the annual theme.
Alongside him, the producer and stylist Pharrell Williams, the basketball player Lebron James, the rapper A $ AP Rocky, the Formula 1 Lewis Hamilton, as well as the actor and director Colman Domingo.

For the first time, a committee of guests was created with black personalities also: the gymnast Simone Biles, the award -winning director Spike Lee, music stars like Usher and Janelle Monaé, or the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Is there public?
Oh not. The 450 guests at the event are handpicked and their arrival is not free: it is indeed a charity gala to finance the maintenance and collection of 33,000 fashion items contained in the museum. Moreover, in 2024, the Met Gala made it possible to raise around $ 26 million (around 23 million euros), according to the Associated Press agency.
Count $ 75,000 (66,000 euros) for an individual place and minimum $ 350,000 (310,000 euros) for a table of 10 people. Most often, explains the BBC, major luxury brands buy a table and invite celebrities, so that they carry their creations on the red carpet.
