As Easter approaches, this is an opportunity to take stock of the price of eggs. This is what Eurostat offered in a publication relayed this Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This reports an increase of 6.7% in the price of eggs in the European Union between March 2024 and March 2025. Luxembourg is one of the eight countries to have experienced a decrease over the last twelve months.
One of the strongest drops in Europe
As such, Luxembourg has even experienced one of the most significant drops in Europe, with -3.2%. Only the Netherlands experienced a greater decrease, with -3.6% in twelve months.
Conversely, the price of eggs exploded in the Czech Republic (+46%), Slovakia (+29.8%) and Hungary (+26.1%). The inflation of the price of eggs is also greater than that of the EU in Denmark, Poland, Spain and Latvia.
Egg consumption has increased sharply in recent years in Luxembourg. While a resident consumed 13.24 kg per person in 2010, this figure more than doubled in 2023, going to 28.28 kg per person. The country imports more than 85% of the eggs it consumes, having invested a budget of 17.6 million euros to buy them abroad.
