After its record start for an adaptation of video games, Minecraft approaches $ 900 million at the world box office and is gaining more and more a good place in the annual top 10. Thus, the real benefits of Furious count:
- $ 76 million for cinema operations (less than half of box office revenues)
- $ 50 million in VOD (video on demand)
- $ 85 million for television and streaming broadcasts
In total, the exploitation (in theaters and the long term) of Furious therefore reported the meager sum of $ 211 millionof which it is obviously necessary to deduce different costs:
- $ 168 million for production
- $ 108 million for promotion
- $ 21 million for the various shares on revenue
- $ 33.6 million for interest and general costs
In all, the feature film therefore cost $ 330.6 million, which means that The Warner lost $ 119.6 million in the operation.
Joker: madness with two hundred million dollars
Joker 2 won $ 207 million at the world box office, including 58 million at home. Gains which, here, melted as snow in the sun:
- $ 87 million for the hall operations
- $ 55 million in VOD (video on demand)
- $ 85 million for television and streaming broadcasts
Joker 2 therefore reported a total of $ 227 millionfrom which it is still necessary to subtract:
- 200 million dollars for production
- $ 106.3 million for promotion
- 25 million dollars for the various shares on revenue
- $ 40 million for interest and general costs
With expenses of $ 371.3 million, The suite of Todd Phillips caused $ 144.3 million to the warner.
Among the 200 million production budgets, note that 20 million would have fallen into the pockets of Joaquin Phoenix, alias Arthur Fleck, and 12 million in those of Lady Gaga, which embodies a pseudo Harley Quinn.
To drive the nail, adding the losses of Joker 2 et Furious, Warner has therefore lost almost $ 264 million. If he remains on his momentum, maybe Minecraft will go far enough to repair the damage. The fact remains that the adaptation with Jack Black and Jason Momoa was a puff of oxygen, if not a defibrillator for the studio which still has a major challenge in 2025: Superman by James Gunn who will open the way to the new DCU and therefore cannot afford to plant himself.
