Only a few days after the Citroën C5 Aircross, Jeep also unveils its compact SUV based on the Technical STLA Medium. This cousin of the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 and the Opel Grandland, as well as DS n ° 8 and future n ° 7, changes radically for this third generation. We must not miss, since the Jeep Compass has conquered more than 2.5 million customers around the world since its beginnings in 2006.
The previous generation, launched in 2016 while the manufacturer still belonged to the FCA group (Fiat-Chrysler), was equipped with a Fiat original technical base. Almost ten years after its launch, it was clearly exceeded even if Jeep still managed to integrate micro-hybrid and rechargeable hybrid … This time, the American manufacturer goes further by adopting the new Stla Medium platform of the Stellantis group. This allows him to adopt various engines in order to meet the needs and preferences of customers: E-hybrid petrol micro-hybridization, rechargeable hybrid (E-hybrid plug-in) and 100 % electric for the first time, one with all-wheel drive on certain variants.
True to Jeep DNA
Drawn in Italy by the team of Daniele Calonaci, head of design Jeep Europe, the model was able to evolve while retaining the brand’s DNA. The angles are more prominent, the very cubic lines and certain elements recall the old generations such as the line of force on the profile in evocation to the first compass of 2006. At the front, we find of course the seven Jeep slots of Jeep, even if it is now closed and incorporates the driving aid sensors. The headlights are in the extension, with an unprecedented light signature in crochet. The bumper adopts active shutters for aerodynamics and a hoof for the backpacking side, while black plastics extend to square wheel arches and prominent rocker panels.
The rectilinear profile is very different from the Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland, Citroën C5 Aircross and DS n ° 8.
The rectilinear profile frankly stands out from the stellantis cousins, and the very short overhangs help make the model balanced. The new compass displays a significant body height (200 mm) and attack and leakage angles (20 ° at the front, 26 ° at the rear) perfectly corresponding to the universe of the brand carried on the crossing forever. At the rear, there is a headband of black -bottomed lights, incorporating a bright signature in the shape of a jerrycan or cross as on the renegade. The Jeep logo placed in the center is illuminated in red for the first time, as on the Opel Grandland.
More space on board
The third generation jeep compass interior is partly inspired by those of the 3008 and Grandland, even if the differences are also quite numerous. Admittedly, the screens are the same, with a central slab of 16 ”and digital counters of 10.25”. But here, the watchword of the design team was symmetry. Similarly, the physical buttons are more numerous than to the other Stellantis models, with shortcuts under the screen and “real” commands at the old -fashioned steering wheel. On the central console, we find the selector of reports here in the form of a dial instead of a domino, while a red control placed right next door manages the selec-terrain driving modes. As standard on all versions, it allows you to venture easily on difficult terrain such as mud or snow. The whole is rather pleasant to the eye. On the other hand, the quality of the plastics is always quite average …
The Jeep Compass interior takes up the screens of the 3008 and Grandland, but adopts a different philosophy on the design side and materials.
The adoption of the new platform goes hand in hand with upward revised dimensions: 4.55 m long (+ 14 cm) including 2.80 m of wheelbase (+ 16 cm), for 1.90 m wide (+ 8 cm) and 1.68 m high (+ 4 cm). This improves habitability, especially second row with a better leg space (+ 2 cm), shoulders (+ 2 cm) and head (+ 1 cm). The modularity is improved by the 40/20/40 bench in standard, but it is not sliding unlike certain competitors. The brand reworked storage spaces with 34 liters dedicated to small everyday objects, against 14 liters previously. Likewise, the trunk volume increases by 45 liters, with 550 liters announced by the brand.
Multi-energy
Thanks to its new technical base, the Compass has the engines broken by the 3008 and Grandland before him. The entry-level is represented by the 1.2 “E-Hybrid” (48V micro-hybrid) of 145 hp in petrol, while a rechargeable hybrid version of 195 hp is also offered with 80 km of autonomy. On the other hand, no thermal 4×4 version for the moment, or diesel. For the first time, the compass also has electrical variants. It offers three different versions at launch: two pull -ups of 213 hp and 231 hp, respectively associated with batteries of 73 kWh and 98 kWh, and an unprecedented variant with all -wheel drive (see below). Autonomy is announced at 650 km in the best of cases. The electric compass displays a maximum load power of 160 kW on the DC current, which allows it to announce a passage of 20 to 80% battery in 30 min on dedicated terminal. The brand specifies that the model serves as standard an AC 22 kW charger.
At the rear, the light of lights adopts a bright cross signature and the logo is illuminated for the first time.
An electric all -wheel drive specific to Jeep
Equipped with a 49 kW and 232 Nm rear engine different from 3008 and Grandland 4×4, the Electric Electric version exclusive to Jeep displays 375 hp instead of 320 on other Stellantis models. Enough to deliver a torque of 3,100 Nm to the rear wheels, in order to get out of the most difficult conditions. This version called 4xe is also distinguished by a specific look: revised bumper for more protection, hood clad in a black sticker, raised suspensions of 10 mm, towing ring at the rear, specific upholstery and dedicated accessories, M+S 19 ”tires …
From € 40,000
For its marketing, the Compass is first offered in an over -equipped 1st version. Only available with the micro-hybrid or the 213 hp electric (traction) offering 500 km of autonomy, it is distinguished in particular by its 20 “rims, its Matrix LED headlights, its central screen of 16”, its illuminated grille, its hand-free electric tailgate or its heating seats. It will be offered around 40,000 € in micro-hybrid petrol, and under the € 47,000 in electric. Enough to benefit from the ecological bonus in France thanks to its production in the Italian factory in Melfi. The first deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2025.
